Event Description

BEIJING'S FIRST FIXED GEAR ALLEYCAT
北京第一个死飞ALLEYCAT

That's right, it's happening! And it's happening soon.

A weekend of parties, bike polo, skid competitions and a grand 'Tour de Pekin' is all set to kick off this June.

Thanks to support from Adidas, some amazing prizes are up for grabs.

ALLEYCAT DETAILS:
Go here: http://tiny.cc/4SwEf for a map of the checkpoints.

Locations are to be confirmed but more or less decided. Any changes will be published with plenty of notice. The race so far includes 12 checkpoints and will start from the gates of the Forbidden City (what a setting!).

First to collect stamps from all checkpoints and reach the finishing station (near the Drum Tower) wins.

Fixie friends from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taiwan etc may want to study this map before coming to familiarise yourself with possible routes.

ALL FIXED GEAR RIDERS IN CHINA ARE WELCOME!

Those without places to stay will be able to 'couch surf' with riders in Beijing.

Ines Comment by Ines on May 21, 2009 at 9:30pm
"飞轮" means freewheel. "死" means dead, so
"死飞" means non-freewheel = fixed gear

Much as I would like to attend, my plane ticket to Beijing only says August 19, so I'm looking forward to meeting some riders then.

So, "死飞" means fixed riding, or fixie bike? That's interesting.

hey nick, the bike polo might open up to other bikes other than fixed if you're interested?

tyler - if you and your mates click 'attend' for now, we'll try and sort out a proper register soon and get back to you. still organising checkpoints etc atm. looking forward to having you guys up here!

Sounds brilliant! Sorry I've been out of touch, been busy with music stuff but I won't miss this. Might be more a spectator than anything due to still lacking a bike but looks like it should be a sweet event!

The alleycat will be on Saturday but we'll be throwing a welcome party on the Friday night which would be worth coming to. The Polo etc will all take place on the Sunday.

Looking forward to having you ride with us!

Cool, and would it be possible to know the date of the race itself? I'm begging my boss to let me go to this but in case I can't get the whole weekend off I'd like to try and at least show up for the race.
James Comment by James on May 13, 2009 at 12:35pm
It's going to be limited to fixed gear and track bikes with single speed for now.

It's not likely to be opened up to others but, we'll look at the demand and maybe re-evaluate later.
